China's traffic jam may last another three weeks by Magdalena Rosova

China, the recently declared world's second biggest economy, is facing a huge traffic jam. The traffic jam was triggered by a road construction. Ten days ago snarl-up began and at one point it was even 100 kilometers long. The traffic jam is reaching to the outskirts of Beijing and authorities warn that it may last for another three weeks. The roads are worst hit in northern China, where drivers sit in the shades of their trucks and play cards. They sleep on the asphalt or bargain their food inventories. The cargo of many trucks carrying fruit and vegetables is rotting as the trucks are not refrigerated. On eight day of the jam, trucks moved only over a kilometer. China Cen! tral Television reported that some vehicles had been struck in the jam for five days. There were no portable toilets set up along the highway and so drivers had only one option – go into the fields. Surprisingly, no big complaints or violent road rage were reported. Drivers were only complaining over villagers selling food and drinks. The villagers came on bicycles and were offering food for 10 times the normal price. The traffic jam is on the Beijing-Tibet highway, which is linking the capital and the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia. The reason why the traffic jam has increased is the opening of coal mines in the northwest. China is doing everything to keep its boosting economy which has recently surpassed Japan and now is second only to America's. Even though wages in China are very low, the number of people owning car is growing. Just for illustration, vehicles on roads in Beijing multiplied by 1,900 per day in the first half of the year.

Čína, ktorá sa nedávno stala druhou najväčšou ekonomikou sveta, dnes čelí obrovskej dopravnej kolízii. Masívnu dopravnú zápchu spôsobila výstavba diaľnice. Zápcha trvá už desať dní a v určitom bode dosahovala až neuveriteľných 100 kilometrov. Dopravná zápcha siaha až po okrajové štvrte hlavného mesta Peking. Autority varujú obyvateľov, že zápcha môže trvať ešte tri ďalšie týždne. Cesty sú najviac postihnuté na severe krajiny. Vodiči sa vzdali a sed! ia v tieni svojich vozidiel uviaznutých v zápche. Hrajú spolu karty alebo spia priamo na asfalte, či obchodujú so svojimi zásobami potravín. Mnohé kamióny prepravujúce ovocie a zeleninu majú poškodený tovar keďže nemajú chladiarenské vozidlo. V ôsmy deň zápchy sa vozidlá posunuli iba o úbohý kilometer. Čínska hlavná televízia informovala, že niektoré vozidlá sú v zápche už päť dní. Pozdĺž diaľnice neboli inštalované žiadne toalety, a tak mali vodiči jedinú možnosť – vyjsť do polí. Prekvapujúco neboli hlásené závažnejšie sťažnosti alebo násilnícke vyčíňanie na cestách. Vodiči sa sťažovali iba na dedinčanov predávajúci jedlo a nápo! je. Dedinčania totiž premávajú medzi uviaz! nutý ;mi vozidlami na bicykloch a ponúkajú potraviny za desaťnásobok bežnej ceny. Dopravná zápcha je na diaľnici medzi Pekingom a Tibetom, ktorá spája hlavné mesto s čínskym regiónom Vnútorné Mongolsko. Dopravnú zápchu spôsobilo otvorenie uholnej bane na severozápade. Čína sa snaží robiť všetko možné, aby udržala prudký vzostup svojej ekonomiky, ktorá nedávno predbehla Japonsku a teraz zaostáva iba za Amerikou. Hoci sú platy v Číne veľmi nízke, počet ľudí vlastniacich automobil neprestajne narastá. Len pre ilustráciu, len počet vozidiel na uliciach Pekingu sa v prvú polovicu tohto roku narástol niekoľko násobne.

Sometimes I am asking myself, if there are more of those bad and tragic things happening than those good and positive ones. It is like the main news headlines, where you in a few minutes get information about floods and landslides, about train or plane crashes and thousands and thousands of dead people. While Pakistan is doing its best to save people from enormous floods, people in China are mourning for 42 people killed during the Henan Airlines’ plane crash on Tuesday. According to official information, Chinese airliner tried to land in heavy fog. This gamble didn’t pay off as the plane smashed in two and killed almost half of all passengers on the board. The ! Henan Airlines domestic flight slammed into the ground in the northeast city of Yichun, just around 40 minutes after the plane took off from Harbin, the provincial capital. Even though the plane’s captain was among the survivors, his injuries made him impossible to talk about accident and what actually happened. One male survivor however told China Central Television that “the plane really started to jolt in a scary way – the plane jolted five or six times very strongly.” His words confirmed another male passenger. The cause of the crash is still unclear, but teams have found the plane’s black box flight data recorder, which should clarify what happened that night. “It is hard to make any assumption right now, but we will publish, step by step, what we can rule out.” said vice-minister of civil aviation Li Jian.

As if rich people couldn’t have it harder!? Their money makes them more powerful in most of the spheres of life, maybe except health. But they can even their health influence a bit: by holiday and trips in some super upscale resorts. French corporation of vacation resorts called Club Med, which was founded in 1950, is offering holidays in exotic location mostly to those people who can afford it. Its resorts had and still have a form of some kind of little villages and the first village was opened on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Later, when Baron Edmond de Rothschild started to finance the company, the number of villages increased greatly. Except exotic and hot reso! rts such as those in Tahiti, Caribbean and Florida there had been created also winter villages. Those were providing skiing and winter sports tuition. There are three different types of villages now: family resorts, resorts for everyone and resorts for adult only. From not-for-profit association, Club Med changed to a for-profit public limited company, which is now based on the concept of membership. And I can tell you, that membership is not for everyone. While in May 2010 the resort company operated 75 villages in Europe, Africa, North and South America, the Caribbean, Southern Asia and Australia, in a short future Club Med will be also in China. As officials informed, China’s famous ski resort in Yabuli will host the country’s first Club Med this November. But the plan is to open five such villages over the next five years. As Olivier Horps, the group’s Asia-Pacific Managing Director said: “People are getting richer…we think the next step is! that people, instead of only possessing luxury goods, will wa! nt to al so enjoy new experiences.” Of course, they will have to pay for it.

Ako keby to bohatí ľudia nemohli mať ešte ľahšie? Peniaze z nich robia mocných ľudí vo väčšine prípadov, možno okrem oblasti zdravia. No aj to môžu svojim spôsobom, prostredníctvom peňazí ovplyvniť svoje zdravie k lepšiemu: najmä drahými dovolenkami a výletmi v exotických a luxusných rezortoch. Francúzska korporácia zameraná na dovolenkové rezorty, Club Med založená v roku 1950, ponúka dovolenky v exotických lokalitách najmä však pre tých, ktorí si to môžu dovoliť! ;. Rezorty Clubu Med mali a stále majú formu akýchsi malých dediniek a prvá takáto rekreačná dedinka bola otvorená na španielskom ostrove Mallorca. Neskôr, keď barón Edmond de Rothschild začal spoločnosť financovať, sa počet dediniek začal značne rozrastať. Okrem exotických, slnečných oblastí ako Tahiti, Karibik či na Florida, existujú aj zimné rezorty. Tie sú určené pre milovníkov lyžovania a zimných športov, kde možno prejsť aj rozličnými športovými kurzami. Existujú doposiaľ tri typy dediniek: takzvané rodinné rezorty, rezorty pre všetkých a rezorty len pre dospelých. Z neziskovej asociácie sa Club Med premenil na spoločnosť s ručením obmedzeným, ktorá zarába pekné peniaze, keďže ! je založená na princípe členstva. Podľ! ;a v# 3;etkého si však členstvo nemôže dovoliť každý. Napriek tomu sa Clubu Med darí. Kým v máji 2010 spravoval 75 dediniek v Európe, Afrike, Severnej a Južnej Amerike, Južnej Ázii a Austrálii, v krátkom čase plánuje otvoriť svoju „pobočku“ aj v Číne. Ako informovali vedúci pracovníci spoločnosti, známy lyžiarsky rezort Yabuli bude prvým oddychovým rezortom Clubu Med, a to už v novembri. Plán je však otvoriť ďalších päť dediniek a to v priebehu piatich rokov. Ako Olivier Horps, vedúci riaditeľ pre oblasť Ázie a Pacifiku, povedal: „Ľudia sú čoraz bohatší...myslíme si, že ďalším krokom bude, že miesto vlastníctva luxusných tovarov, budú títo ľudia chcieť nové zá! ;žitky.“ Samozrejme, budú musieť za to aj pekne zaplatiť.
