Indonesia is facing another volcano eruption these days. After deadly tsunami woken by earthquake last week, the mountain – Mount Merapi started eruption. Ashes, dust and lava forced people to move away from the area of 20 miles (30 kilometers) perimeter. The same area is now empty and prohibited for two airlines – Malaysian budget airline AirAsia and Singapore's SilkAir that suspended several international flights to Yogykarta and Solo. The access into famous 9th century Borobudur temples has been denied. Indonesian government however, has certainly different issues to solve after the tsunami killed 431 people. The hit area lies about 800 miles (1,300 kilomet! ers) west from erupting mountain. So far, about 70,000 people were evacuated from their homes and fields that were once fertile remained with a thick, grey layer of dust. Merapi is not in a „power“ for the first time, according to statistics, it is the tenth time that the mountain has erupted since October 26th. As for the dynamics of the volcano, for now scientists suggest that the mountain may not reach the full power, but the eruption may last several weeks. Translated into the words of sport it „would be a marathon, rather than a sprint“, said Safari Dwiyono, a volcanologist who has observed the mountain for more than 15 years. Indonesia is located on the „Ring of Fire“ or seismic fragile area. The archipelago sits on the broken line of several tectonic tables that are in gradual, though slow move. Indonesian government has raised the alert for another 21 volcanos in the country during past two months.
