Auf unserem Planeten gibt es einige Orte, an denen man sein Handy oder Internet nicht benutzen kann. Wie erstaunlich es auch klingen mag, handelt es sich dabei um keine unbesiedelte oder vom Menschen unberührte Gebiete. Zum Beispiel Yellowstone National Park gehört zu solchen Orten und wird von Menschen verwaltet, das Problem ist nur wie lange noch. Am Dienstag erklärten die Parkfunktionäre, dass sie ein Konzept zusammenstellten, das kabellose Dienste im Park vorsieht.
Yellowstoner Plan über kabellose Kommunikationswege soll die Unterlage für die Erweiterung der Handyempfangsbedeckung im 3500 Quadratmeilen großen Park sein. Laut ihnen werden die Auswirkungen unbedeutend, da auf den umliegenden Gebieten und Parkstraßen keine Funktürme stehen dürfen. Sie verlangen, dass eine größere Oberfläche mit Handydiensten und kabelloser Internetverbindung ausgestattet werden. Einer der Makel, der zu diesem Konzept führte, war eine der am meisten besuchten Stellen in Yellowstone der Old-Faithful-Geisir, der gleich neben einem Funkturm lag. Widersprüche, die durch diese heikele Position entstanden, wurden gelöscht, indem der Turm neben ein Wasserreinigungswerk verlegt wird.
Es ist nicht sehr aufmunternd zu wissen, dass die Orte, die mal den Menschen Ruhe und eine perfekte Gelegenheit bieten sollten, sich auszuruhen und zu meditieren, nun von frechen Menschen gestört werden, die ihre Anrufe beantworten. Im Sinne der Politik der Zuvorkommenheit versicherten uns die Angestellten, dass es sicher Menschen geben würde, die das gar nicht in Betracht ziehen würden. Es gibt Telephonautomaten entlang den Straßen im Park, warum sollte jemand ein Handy brauchen? Bis 31. Oktober kann jeder seine Meinung zum Thema äußern. Lassen wir nicht zu, dass die Technologie überall durchdringt. Grüne Energie!

Another Furlough in United Airlines!

In between terrific news about another crashed plane that reached out the lucky number seven during the past month, today I wanna talk about airplanes, however from another point of view.

Declared as an indispensable step to carry on with the rivals in one of the most discussed world's environments, United Airlines said on Wednesday it will furlough 1,550 flight attendants as it reduces its flying this fall.




Nevertheless, it's not the only reduction in American airplane transport so far. Just weeks ago, we've heard of American Airlines, intending to drop over nine hundreds of attendants, pilots, managers and front-line workers. Despite of discussion with the Departments, the firing was unavoidable.

United Airlines, the mayor American airline company, settling down in Chicago, Illinois has been familiar with striking its up and down times. For brief revision let's just assume the most important milestones here. United Airlines, founded in 1926 as Boeing Air Transport has been always innovative and pro-expanding company. Soon it became the biggest national airline and in 1991 it finally got the green light from UK company to fly directly Chicago-London's Heathrow. United Airlines was also the first company landing in Vietnam since the Vietnam War. It has created several alliances, for example 1998 the Star Alliance along with Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS and Thai Airways.

Sour times and the following almost bankrupt hit United Airlines on September 11th, when two of its Boeings ( 757, 767) had been hijacked by al-Quaeda and the rest is...But we know all about that.

Facts tell us that after September 11, the company lost $2.14 billion in 2001 on revenues of $16.14 billion. Followed with massive national crisis 2002, company strike the same conditions as today.




However, it has taken its time to overcome 'terroristic panic' in U.S.

On June 2008 the company has announced it's turning down several international flights including San Francisco-Nagoya and Chicago-Mexico City. Briefly a result of oil prices melt down, today the spokesman Jeff Kovick can refer to roughly 10 percent furloughs of United's cabin workers.




More than seven thousands should be recalled by the end of 2009, among them more than 1,600 managers, 5,500 front-line workers and 950 pilots. Naturally before the narrative cut off, they will be free to leave voluntarily and save their benefits such insurance and flight privileges.

The first 1,500 will have to seek for a job before October 31.




However, this time, United will need more than personal innovation to hold its positions. According several press polls, people are getting scared of flying. It's almost every week, we can hear of an airplane crashed down. Last time it was Ryan Air that prides itself of being the most secure budget company in Europe, forced to land during the flight. Last year I have listened that almost 300 airplanes from former Soviet Union had been forbidden to fly because of technical condition. However, the committee didn't say a word against European nor American air companies.

So the question remains, whether they had been checking also the western part of the planet.

Personally I don't prefer flying in planes with black holes inside of it.

Dnes sa moje slová pokúsia obsiahnuť ďalší zlomok správ z leteckého priemyslu, ktorý nám však, priznajme si, pominulé týždne naháňa skôr strach. Lietadlá padajú neustále, ale náhoda, kedy v jeden týždeň havarujú dve lietadlá, z toho jedno pod vlajkou známej európskej spoločnosti, a ďalšie je vďaka poruche pri lete nútené núdzovo zosadnúť, iste naženie obáv a prileje olej do ohňa všetkým zodpovedným.

Avšak okrem padajúcich strojov, budú padať aj hlavy. To v minulú stredu ohlásila najväčšia americká letecká spoločnosť United Airlines. Do konca jesene mieni znížiť svoje stavy o takmer 1500 pracovníkov.

V krajine, kde neúmerná cena pohonných palív doviedla mnohých takmer ku krachu, to nie je žiadne prekvapenie. Podobný scenár sa len pred pár týždňami tiež odohral v spoločnosti American Airlines. Takmer devätsto pracovníkom nepomohlo ani rokovanie s odbormi.
United Airlines, v súčasnosti druhá najväčšia letecká spoločnosť na svete dnes s takmer 454 strojmi premáva medzi 210 destináciami. Ešte pred mesiacom ich bolo viac. V júni tohto roku bola spoločnosť nútená zrušiť viacero medzinárodných spojov, medzi iným aj pravidelnú linku San Francisco-Nagoya a Chicago-Mexico City.

Pre krátky prehľad, skúsme si však stručne zrekapitulovať históriu svetového leteckého giganta. Inovatívna a expanzívna spoločnosť United Airlines vznikla už v roku 1926, pod menom Boeing Air Transport. Od tých dôb sa vďaka dravej politike vyšvihla na vrchol a stala sa najväčším národným prepravcom. Svetovú dominanciu dosiahla v roku 1991, kedy konečne od britskej vlády dostala povolenie na linku Chicago- londýnsky Heathrow. United Airlines bola taktiež prvou americkou spoločnosťou, ktorej lietadlá bezpečne pristáli vo Vietname, od skončenia neslávnej Vietnamskej vojny.
Spoločnosť počas svojej histórie sformovala niekoľko aliancií, z ktorých azda najvýznamnejšia Star Alliance vznikla v roku 1998 spojením Air Canada, Lufthansy, SAS a Thai Airways.

Úspech však netrval dlho. 11 September, deň mnohých prívlastkov, vzial United Airlines ako sa vraví, vietor z plachiet. Členovia teroristickej al-Kaidy vtedy uniesli ich Boeingy 757 a 767.
Koniec tohoto príbehu všetci veľmi dobre poznáme. Hystéria, poškodené meno a prísne bezpečnostné opatrenia, to všetko prispelo k obrovským stratám spoločnosti, ktorá v ten rok prišla takmer o 2,14 miliardy z celkového takmer 16,5 miliardového imania. Ameriku vtedy zasiahla hromadná ekonomická kríza, ktorú mnohí prirovnávajú k recesii 2007.

Tá trvá dodnes. Hromadné prepúšťanie leteckých spoločností nie je ničím prekvapivým. Hovorca United Airlines, Jeff Kovick sa minulý týždeň zmienil o takmer 10 tich percentách zamestnancov, ktorí by mali spoločnosť opustiť do konca roku 2009.
Preložené do jazyka čísel, za obeť by malo padnúť 1600 manažérov, 5500 personálnych pracovníkov a 950 pilotov. Pred oficiálnym nariadením spoločnosti dostanú všetci možnosť dobrovoľného odchodu. Každopádne by nemali prísť o svoje výhody, týkajúce sa zdravotného poistenia a firemných privilégií.

Akokoľvek, ak chce United Airlines obstáť na trhu, bude musieť vymyslieť viac ako šetriace opatrenia v ľudskom sektore. Podľa niekoľkých tlačových prieskumov sú ľudia čoraz viac vystrašenejší. Za posledný mesiac havarovalo presne 7 lietadiel. O desiatkách mŕtvych počúvame každý týždeň. A napriek všetkému, padajú lietadlá známych /európskych/ leteckých spoločností. Minulý rok Medzinárodná Komisia pre Bezpečnosť pre nedostačujúci technický stav z prevádzky vyradila takmer 300 starých strojov, pôvodom prevažne z bývalého Sovietského Zväzu. Zle obstáli aj mnohé ázijské nizkonákladové spoločnosti.
Keď však potom počujete, ako najväčší a najbezpečnejší nízkonákladový Ryanair musí pre poruchu počas letu, núdzovo pristáť, pýate sa, či komisia na západnej polovici planéty predsalen niečo neprehliadla.

Osobne, extra výhľad v podobe roztrhnutých plášťov lietadiel v niekoľko kilometrovej výške počas letu, príliš neoceňujem. Asi budem nadaľej chodiť vlakom...

No more life vests for Jazz air carrier

Life vest will no longer be a part of planes of Canada’s air carrier Jazz. The carries has decided to remove them to save fuel and weight.

According to the announcement of Jazz spokeswoman Manon Stuart from Thursday, the government regulations, which are set by Transport Canada, allow airlines the usage of floatation devices instead of life vests.

Now, instead of life vests, the passengers are directed by safety cards to use the seat cushions as floating devices. Stuart said that „the nature of our operations doesn't require that we carry both. “ Also, she said that Jazz is a transcontinental carrier and doesn’t really fly over the ocean much.

Stuart also claims that each flight of Jazz operates within 50 nautical miles offshore. Jazz apparently has 880 flights daily to 85 destinations in North America and just a small amount of them flies over water.

The most common aircraft of Jazz is Dash-8, which has 50 seats. Removing vests from it, each weighing approximately a half-kilogram (1.1 pound), would mean saving 25 kilograms (55 pounds).

Stuarts said that Transport Canada was satisfied that “we met the regulation, and they approved the change. “ Also, with the high costs of fuel, the airline is looking at every single thing.

On the other hand, they mayor of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, Woody French, doesn’t like this at all and called it a cheap move. French tried to advocate a passenger bill of rights. He said “A lot of these airlines say 'Well, our passengers are our main concern.' That's a bit of a misnomer. We're a distant second. Profits are the first. “

French is ready to send a protest letter to transport minister of Canada, saying that the outcome of elimination of the life vests will be minimal fuel saving.

Záchranné vesty už nebudú súčasÅ¥ou výbavy lietadiel kanadskej leteckej spoločnosti Jazz. SpoločnosÅ¥ sa ich rozhodla z lietadiel odstrániÅ¥, aby zachránila palivo a regulovala hmotnosÅ¥.

Podľa Å¡tvrtkového vyhlásenia hovorkyne Jazz, Manon Stuart, nariadenia vlády, ktoré nariaďuje Transport Kanada, dovoľujú leteckým spoločnostiam používanie plaveckých pomôcok namiesto záchranných viest.

A tak teraz, namiesto záchranných viest je cestujúcim nariadené používanie poduÅ¡iek zo sedadiel ako pomôcok na plávanie. Los chalecos salvavidas no serán parte de los aviones de la aerolínea canadiense Jazz air. La compañía ha decidido quitarlos para ahorrar combustible y peso.

Según el anuncio de la portavoz de Jazz Manon Stuart, a partir del jueves, las regulaciones de gobierno, que son puestas por Transport Canada, permiten a aerolíneas el uso de almohadas y cojines flotantes en vez de chalecos salvavidas.

Ahora, en vez de chalecos salvavidas, los pasajeros tienen que usar los cojines de asiento como dispositivos flotantes. Stuart dijo que " la naturaleza de nuestras operaciones no requiere que llevemos a ambos. " También dijo que Jazz se especieliza en vuelos regionales y realmente no vuela sobre el océano.

Stuart también demanda que cada vuelo de Jazz se realiza a una distancia mínima de 50 millas de la costa. Jazz tiene 880 vuelos diariamente a 85 destinos en Norteamérica y solamente una pequeña cantidad de ellos vuela sobre el agua.

United Airlines, glavnata Amerikanska aviokompanija, so sedište vo Čikago, Ilinois e poznata po svoite vreminja gore i dole. Samo kako malo potsetuvanje da gi vidime temelite ovde. United Airlines, osnovana vo 1926 godina kako Boeing Air Transport otsekogaš bila inovativna i ekspandiračka kompanija. Naskoro potoa stanuva najgolemata nacionalna aviokompanija i vo 1991 godina konečno dobiva zeleno svetlo od angliskata kompanija da leta direktno od Čikago do aerodromot Hitrou vo London. United Airlines e prvata kompanija koja sleta vo Vietnam po Vietnamskata vojna. Ima sozdadeno nekolku spojuvanja, na primer vo 1998 godina so Star Alliance zaedno so Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS i Thai Airways.

Teškite vreminja i bankrotiranjata koi sledea ja pogodija United Airlines na 11ti septemvri, koga dvata nejzini Boinga (757, 767) bea kidnapirani od Al Kaeda i ostanatoto... No go znaeme seto toa.

Faktite kažuvaat deka posle 11ti septemvri kompanijata izgubi 2.14 bilioni dolari vo 2001 godina od prihodite od 16.14 bilioni dolari. Sledejki ja masivnata kriza vo 2002 godina, kompanijata ja pogodija istite uslovi kako i denes.

Kako i da e, i trebaše vreme da ja nadmine "terorističkata panika" vo SAD.

Vo juni 2008 godina kompanijata objavi deka povlekuva nekolku megunarodni letovi vklučuvajki go San Francisko - Nagoja i Čikago - Meksiko Siti. Na kratko poradi cenite na naftata, denes portparolot Dzef Kovik može da zboruva za okolu 10 procentno otpuštanje na kabinskite rabotnici na United.

Kako i da e, na United sega ke i treba poveke od inovativnost da ja zadrži svojata pozicija. Spored poslednite objavi vo pečatot, lugeto se plašat od letanje. Skoro sekoja nedela, slušame za nekoja avionska nesreka. Posledno što slušnavme e deka RyanAir, koja se proklamira za najsigurna kompanija vo Evropa, beše prinudena da sleta predvreme. Poslednata godina slušnav za poveke od 300 avioni od Sovetskiot sojuz na koi im e zabraneto da letaat poradi tehnički pričini. Kako i da e, komitetot ne kažuva ništo protiv Evropskite ili pak Amerikanskite aviokompanii.

Taka prašanjeto ostanuva, dali tie go proveruvale i zapadniot del od planetata.
Lično ne sakam da letam vo avioni so crni dupki vnatre.

Experts say tourist overuse threatens Peru's Machu Picchu

This week in Quebec City, Canada the world UNESCO committee meeting takes place. Officials negotiate there which world monuments and heritage sites should be added to the list of UNESCO and which ones from already included should be added to the list of endangered heritage sites. They can surely choose from many suggestions from different parts of the whole world, even Slovakia tries to have two another monuments put down on this list. I am really curious whether it is going to become true. Anyway, this special listing has included 851 different monuments and places from about 150 countries all over the world. I think every government and probably citizens of given country too who have something special in their countries made either by nature or handmade, want to show it to the whole world and also want to protect it. In my opinion, monuments and heritage sites registered in the UNESCO list are more attractive and mean a large temptation for tourists. So this means quite high profits to the treasury but on the other hand, the place can be more and more damaged thanks to huge number of curious visitors. One point of this week meeting is bargaining about Peru's the most visited place, ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. This heritage site is registered in UNESCO list from 1983 and during the last ten years the yearly visits there more than doubled to 800,000 visitors per year. So some architects, archaeologists and residents are afraid it will be completely damaged if it is not on the list of endangered world heritage sites. Also the residents of nearby city of Cuzco, which is also the part of the listing protested against the state plan which supports expanding private development in the town and near it. So there are different opinions about the future of this citadel and its surrounding. The park officials want to improve Aguas Calientes, town in the neighbourhood of Machu Picchu, by expanding and building new hotels, restaurants and so on. At the same time they claim while there is possibility of spreading this town, the citadel will stay intact. According to my opinion, inhabitants don't want to have so many visitors in their environs who can sometimes in the future destroy their heritage and cultural monument they are proud of it...

Chris Cantell Discusses Travel: Pretul la calatoriile aeriene

Pana acum nici nun e mai surprinde sa auzim ca preturile la calatoriile aeriene s-au scumpit. Dupa ce s-a scumpit pretul la carburanti, toate mijloacele de transport si-au crescut tarifele, in mod deosebit companiile aeriene. Principalul motiv este bineinteles dorinta de a face fata noilor costuri si de a ramane in afaceri. Totusi, cateodata cresterea in pretul biletelor de calatorii aeriene nu a fost incununata cu succes intrucat nu toate liniile aeriene au luat aceleasi masuri, astfel ca au fost nevoite sa renunte la crestere si sa se gandeasca la altceva.
Cele 13 procente de marire a pretului carburantilor trebuiau sa se reflecte in cost, astfel ca liniile aeriene fiind nevoite sa plateasca cu 77 la suta mai mult decat de obicei pentru alimentare au crescut pretul biletelor si au recurs la conciedieri in masa, lista cu rezultate negative putand a continua. Doar anul acesta au avut loc 17 incercari de a creste pretul biletelor la calatoriile aeriene, de aceea nu ar trebui sa surprinda cresterea de 7.5 la suta a unui zbor de o mila in SUA cu un avion commercial. Anul trecut in iulie pretul carburantilor nu a fost $4/ un galon.
Miercuri, Asociatia Transporturilor a Americii (reprezinta atat pasagerii cat si furnizorii de marfa din SUA) a confirmat cresterea pretului mediu/ mila/ pasager, fara a lua in calcul taxele guvernamentale care reprezinta aproape 14 la suta din pretul unui bilet normal dus-intors sau 22 la suta pentru zborurile cu conexiuni. Aparent FareCompare.com (un site care cauta si compara pretul biletelor de avion) nu va arata foarte curand nici o intoarcere care ar putea salva buzunarul nostru de la ruina, dar mai ramane speranta ca noua lansare in industria internetului sa le aduca suficienti bani cat sa opreasca maririle si conciedierile. Noroc!
