Hoci bolo slávnostne otvorené kráľovnou Alžbetou II. 14. marca 2008, až 28. marec sa stal dňom, kedy na pristávacej dráhe Terminálu 5 pristálo prvé lietadlo z Hong Kongu, stávajúc sa vôbec prvým lietadlom, čo na ňom kedy pristálo.Terminál 5 bol dlho netrpezlivo očakávaný, malo ísť predsa o 8.6 miliárd dolárovú odpoveď na neslávne známu reputáciu letiska Heathrow ako miesta, kde sa ani neodporúča, aby ste dúfali v to, že ešte niekedy v živote uvidíte svoju batožinu. Terminál 5 je totižto vybavený veľkolepým a supermoderným batožinovým systémom. Väčšina pasažierov neprehliadla ani modernú architektúru, fantastický výhľad na areál terminálu, nablýskané a úplne nové vybavenie, modrné zariadenia a zamestnancov letiska v tričkách s nápisom “Môžem Vám pomôcť?”.Bohužiaľ, zárak sa nestal a všetci zo skupinky “Môžem Vám pomôcť” sa stali len ironickou ukážkou toho, akí bezmocní v skutočnosti všetci na letisku boli. O jeden deň skôr, v stredu, ďalšia veľká letecká spoločnosť Fort Worth musela taktiež zrušiť 325 letov. Hovorkyňa Chris Kelly sa vyjadrila, že očakávaný počet letových odvolaní v priebehu piatkového dopoludnia bude okolo 270 a ich dopad na celosvetový letecký poriadok spoločnosti Delta bude zhruba vo výške 3 percent. Tieto rozsiahle inšpekcie boli nariadené FAA po neúspešnej bezpečnostnej kontrole v Southwest Airline v Dallase.Táto spoločnosť taktiež obdržala pokutu, ktorú FAA udelila jednak kvôli neúspešnej kontrole a taktiež pre pokračovanie operovania chybných lietadiel s cestujúcimi na palube. Kto by si bol pred pár rokmi pomyslel, že turistické lety do vesmíru sa stanú skutočnosťou v takom krátkom čase? Hoci si podobný luxus môžu v týchto dňoch dovoliť len tí najbohatší bezpochyby je to obrovský krok vpred. Keďže sa toto nedávno objavené odvetvie stáva čoraz populárnejším rôzne spoločnosti v tom vidia jedinečnú príležitosť, ktorá im môže priniesť obrovský zisk. V stredu predstavila letecká spoločnosť z Kalifornie na tlačovej konferencii model dvojsedadlového raketoplánu, ktorý môže pasažierov vyniesť do výšky až 59 kilometrov nad zemou. Spoločnosť Xcor Aerospace plánuje skúšobné lety na rok 2010. Lynx má približne také rozmery ako malé súkromné lietadlo a takisto môže vzlietnuť z dráhy ako bežné lietadlo. Je schopná dosiahnuť maximálnu rýchlosť Mach 2, teda dvojnásobnú rýchlosť zvuku. Raketa bude môcť uskutočniť štyri lety denne. Cestujúci bude usadený na mieste druhého pilota a tak bude môcť prežiť ten najintenzívnejší zážitok. „Táto raketa bola navrhnutá predovšetkým na komerčné účely,” vyjadril sa výkonný riaditeľ spoločnosti Jeff Greason. The fuel price is soaring and from all the means of transportation, the airliners seem to be the most affected, registering many bankruptcies. In order to cope with the new situation and to avoid getting out of business, many airliners focused either on merges, either on raising fares. Since the beginning of April, the fares rose up to 13 percent on 280 routes, but Delta Air Lines Inc. Chief Executive Richard Anderson said prices will need to be increased with 15 or 20 percent more in the current situation. United Airlines is a subsidiary of UAL Corporation and the second-largest U.S. carrier as of July 2006. Its spokeswoman Robin Urbanski announced on Thursday that most domestic airfares will be increased by 3 to 5 percent representing the third in a row in the last two weeks. Still, the airliner tries to prevent to get in a tight position similar to that of 2006 (February) when it faced bankruptcy, thus it is also in talks with Continental Airlines in the perspective of a merge and the decision will be taken after the merge Delta-Northwest ends. Airliners have to deal with strikes too and in the context of a shaky economy and uneasy investors. The shares market has been seeing many fall downs, but United parent UAL Corp., managed to increase the shares price to $1.46, or 10.5 percent. Now, it is really hard to cope with fuel price reality ($120 a barrel) and keep people's attention when it comes to travel by airplanes. The only problem is to find a mutual ground and that is fast before the number of passengers decreases and thus generating revenue losses.

There is paranoia in the air, or is it just too much ego? Apparently Brazil thinks those wretched tourists are depriving Brazilians of what is rightful theirs. More or less openly the government expressed their reasons regarding the bill it plans to send to the Congress. According to the mentioned bill all foreigners wanting to visit the area called “the legal Amazon” will need a permit. Justice Secretary Romeu Tuma Jr. revealed their plans regarding the bill. As real conquerors and colonizers (a very good book on the subject “Heart of Darkness”) they want to affirm their right over the world's largest tropical wilderness. According to Tuma the permit is meant to let them know who is coming to visit and what the purposes of the visit are. Anyone that will enter without getting such a permit will receive a fine up to 100,000 reals. Actually the bill reflects the suspicions of conservative politicians and the military regarding the intentions of foreign nongovernmental organizations. Bioprospecting, the search for plants or other organisms with medical or commercial uses, and other illegal activities are the main reasons that Tuma invoked and added that although there are many NGOs doing a great job in helping the Indians and the rain forest, but some also cause troubles. Thus 61 percent will possibly be under restricted access. It is not a new bill, because in the 1970s they tried something similar and it did not function. Why would they think it will work now? Yet, they are determined to go ahead with it and I bet the bill will be passed. Not only NGOs will be led off, but also all tourist, therefore affecting the economy too.

As a matter of fact, New Orleans has been the city chosen for many films like Runaway Jury, The Skeleton Key, Hard Times, Glory Road, All the King's Men, Déjà Vu, Last Holiday, etc. Therefore it must have something special that attracts movie fans to visit it. According to a survey made in mid-April the number of tourists visiting New Orleans has doubled in 2007 by comparison to 2006. Nonetheless, this city that is well known for multicultural heritage, movies, culture, architecture and cuisine dealt with many problems after was hit in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina that flooded 80 percent of the city. While trying to recover after the disaster, it was hit by Hurricane Rita too sweeping all the efforts of rebuilding and drainage after Katrina. On the other side, the rate crime that was a real problem and even brought the nickname of “murder capital” from the FBI, has considerable reduced after the calamity and the implemented measures of Mayor Ray Nagin. Because the interest is so big and the tourists are pouring in, the city officials and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp are launching a new campaign that will maintain the number high even as the summer season approaches. It will be called "Come Out and Play" and will focus on music, food and cultural and family attractions. As a former French colony named after Philippe II, Duc d'Orléans, Regent of France, New Orleans is particularly known for the jazz (its place of birth), Mardi Gras and other wonderful festivals. The 7.1 million tourists that visit it last year have spent their money wisely and enjoyed a city that is improving. Feds fine Travelocity.com for Cuba trips by Notme

Travelocity.com was fined by the federal regulators for booking trips between U.S. and Cuba after they violated a 45 years old embargo. It's a first time when an online travel agency is fined by the feds.They paid earlier this month about $182,750 for settling a complaint brought by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, after the agency violated prohibition almost 1500 times between January 1998 and April 2004.U.S. Treasury Department declared that Travelocity.com "provided travel-related services in which Cuba or Cuban nationals had an interest by arranging air travel and hotel reservations to, from, with or within Cuba without an OFAC license."A spokesman for Travelocity, Joel Frey said in an e-mail Wednesday that the company hasn't applied for a license and it doesn't intend to do so. He said that the trips to Cube were unintentionally permitted to be booked by consumers online because of some technical failures from several years ago and it's just now settled with OFAC."In no way did the company intend to allow bookings for trips to Cuba and the company has fully cooperated with OFAC and implemented corrective measures."The spokeswoman of U.S. Treasury, Molly Millerwise said that any individual or business that violates Cuban sanction will face criminal penalties, but she didn't specified if the investigation of Travelocity had been closed.

Hawaiian people are not satisfied with the way of tourism progress. Tourism grows up here into industry. The state's biggest industry. Living in 24/7 resort causes some negatives which are noisy neighbors, increasing prices of home and rental costs and destroy the traditional community sense. These new people change everyday. There is no time for knowing them better. They do not join activities of Hawaiian people. The parts as Oahu, Maui and Kauai became places of two parts. One of them is for short-term rental suits the other one is against them. People who run the bed and breakfast or other type of short-term housing say it is not because it help them get rich. It is a way how to pay mortgages or other bills. Many of them have never had a problem with noise and their guests always use to keep house rules. Problems of owners and neighbors grew up into confrontations and lawsuits. The situation is really complicated, because people do not want to fight with own neighbors or lure away tourists, but on the other side they want to live quiet life. Bed and breakfast are only a small part of tourism in Hawaii. The biggest one are hotels. There are available about 73.000 units prepared for visitors. Another problem is with illegal rental suits. There were found more than 4.000 illegal short-term units in most frequented parts of Hawaii in 2005. Bed and breakfast suites are very popular because of their low price. They are available from 80 dollars per night until in a hotel tourists have to pay nearly 200 dollars per night. But there should be completely another situation in close future. All three areas are going to change the way of getting permits for short-term rental suits and bed and breakfast rooms. Owners will be not able to run their business outside of certain resort areas and if they run their business outside a residential districts, they will have to pay nearly quadruple taxes like an equivalent to a hotel rate.

Disney gets safer by Claudia Sonea

Everyone's dream is to get at least once in their life at the Walt Disney World Resort, even for the inner children of the adults. There are so many attractions that only a day spent in the entertainment park would not suffice. An attraction that really gets people' attention is the Primeval Whirl at Disney's Animal Kingdom, a roller coaster bought from Reverchon and that has cars spinning in circles while traveling on tracks, thus the ride is extremely different each time. Why it is so different from the others? It is due to the tragic incident that took place on 29 November 2007. Karen Price, a Disney Cast Member, died at the age of 63 in a Florida hospital after was hit by one of the cars of Primeval Whirl and fell from the platform. According to park officials and Orange County authorities she hit her head in the fall and that lead to her death. Nevertheless her death is still being investigated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty stated on Wednesday that due to the incident the entry and exit areas of Primeval Whirl will be renewed with sensor mats in restricted-access areas, they will extend the platform and add bold stripes to the load and unload zones, In case a person sets foot in that area the role of the sensor mats will be to shut down the ride. The state registered nine deaths reported by Disney from 2001. The question that pops-up in everyone's minds right now is if indeed their dream is a good one and if indeed, Disney is assuring their safety or the events are just the results of hazard.
