Aviation crisis week almost over!
by Milota Sidorova
The week of chaos and meltdown on world's airports is nearing its end. Most of the European aviation space was opened this morning. The green lights for flight turned on in Denmark, Sweeden, Finland and Britain, the countries seriously influenced with the dust and sand cloud from the Icelandic volcano. The situation down on Earth is chaotic and air companies do everything to satisfy the demand for tickets. During the week more than 95,000 flights were cancelled and thousands of people stayed all over the world. Most of them now wait in the line for the next free flight, but this may take weeks to find one. Surely you can imagine the situation.Air transporters also pressed E! U government with the request of pay back their loss caused by nature. Well, that's seems to be bit out of question and remains of American bailout during the crisis. Air companies said they lost over billion euro past five days and demand more money from European tax payers. They explain it with the same reason as American banks did – they were just too big to be bankrupted. But if this happens to another maybe even more important business, no action is taken. Why should we take care about profits of private companies who know the risks of its business. Air companies, more than any other company is dependent on weather conditions and has to count with these kinds of loss. Surely they do, but still they shout out loud, they were hurt, so they need money.During the week, the biggest looser was of course aviation transport, but on the other hand, the demand for bus and train transport enormously increased. Companies had to add more international lines to balance human j! am on airports. Also taxi companies made a fortune during the ! week. So me of them were offering the trips all over the Europe, if paid well. But when you are in need, you don't deal the price. This situation offers interesting insight to balance and disbalance of transport situation all over Europe. Major part is choosing airplanes, not knowing the risks and environmental threats. But the same results could be reached by using high-speed trains all over the continent. For instance, with TGW, private air traffic died in France and if you count the public benefit of such train and the private plan taking off with one businessman, you have to rethink the situation. Most of the times, high-speed trains would cover internal and international lines between the cities. But right now, they are much more expensive than the plane tickets that you can get sometimes even for few cents.Let's think and demand more.
