Internet on a board of plain in US
by Ivana Bruderova

o travel by plane is nowadays absolutely nothing special. Traveling like this is considered to be one of the most comfortable and mainly the fastest ways how to move from one place to another. Although, in some countries, there was always something missing. JetBlue Airways Corp. will start to provide limited e-mail and instant messaging on a board. Due to the bandwidth constraints of laptops and handhelds using Wi-Fi, the General Web surfing and e-mail attachments won't be permitted. This will be limited to messaging from Yahoo Inc. Brad Garlinghouse, Yahoo's senior vicepresident for communications and communities said, Yahoo designed special lightweight versions of services for JetBlue. This system is available for owners of two types of BlackBerry- the 8820 and Curve 8320- that have Wi-Fi wireless capabilities. Tuesday's flight 641 from New York to San Francisco is planned as a debut of this system. The Airbus 320 is specially designated "BetaBlue". Of course, there will be some restrictions about using Internet during flight, for instance is baned to use it when a plane is taking off or landing. In the past, similar services provided by Boeing Co. used connection via satellites. Boeing cooperated with the largest carriers companies such as Germany's Lufthansa AG., Japan's Airlines Corp, Singapore Airlines, etc, but the US had especially after September 2001 negative attitude. New system JetBlue will use about 100 ground towers. It has less capacity but is much cheaper. In-flight acces appreciate especially business travellers, howewer the fact they can e-mail only from Yahoo would be limiting for them. For those less demanding it can be very likable way how to survive some "endless" flights.
