Plane, passengers, smoke and evacuation by Barbora Misakova

Summer and holidays. There is only few people who would like to spend their holidays sitting at home and watching TV, and even though I know some of them, there is still a majority of those, who always love to go somewhere out. To see and visit some places they haven't seen yet, to visit foreign countries, to bath on foreign beaches, sunbathing somewhere in the Croatia or Greece, doing anything what they, for some reason, couldn't do at home. Except thinking of destination, there are lot of other important things to think about. For example what do we have to take with us, how much money should we change, and of course how will we get there. Families or bigger groups of people used to travel by car, and there were really such a times, when it was more than advantageous. Not only because of the final price of transportation, but also because of your own tempo of traveling. Especially traveling with kids could be a little bit complicated, because you never know when they will need to piss or something else. But when you are without children, and you and your boyfriend would like to be on the place as soon as possible, it is better find some wings. Traveling by planes is more than common these days, and except the fear you can feel and some stomach problems, I would say it is probably the best way of transportation. All you have to do is not to think about all plane catastrophes which ever happened.

I remember it well – the first time I have ever traveled by plane. I was so nervous and I could deal with my fear with all passengers on the board. All those terrible pictures from newspapers about plane accidents and thousands of dead people were running constantly in my mind. I was even thinking about all those emergency landings which not always ended happily, all those evacuations and so on. I was really panic struck. Fortunately, after two hours we successfully landed in London's Stansted Airport. But some people don't have such a luck, and during their flight some problem appeared. Just like the aircraft full of passengers flying to Honolulu on Tuesday. Just imagine you are sitting at your seat, you are so excited about the trip, that you are not able to do anything, just thinking about that beautiful beach waiting for you and clear blue sea water. You just cannot wait landing in Honolulu. When your plane finally took off, you can be counting down the minutes till your arrival. But what's going on? We are not off more than one hour, and captain is turning our plane back to the airport. “Hey! Why? What happened?” you want to scream. But as soon as you find out that someone smelled smoke in the cabin, you are not thinking about the beach and sea. You are thinking about 188 passengers traveling with you, you are thinking about you family and friends. And even though you don't know clearly what's going on, you tremble. Fortunately, this time no tragic accident happened, all passengers were evacuated, no one was injured, except few bumps and bruises. And even though no sign of fire was found on the aircraft, the whole case is in the investigation. May all of plane catastrophes could have such an end.
