I believe I can fly
by Barbora Misakova
In 21st century there is probably no one who would never fly or even know about flying and using airplanes for various purposes, but mostly for transportation on long distances. Year 2003 was significant because it was exactly one hundred years ago when the incredible invention of Wright brothers was developed. On December 17, 1903 Orville and Wilbum Wright made the world's first and successful airplane flight. Of course it took some time till aircrafts we flight in these days developed into form we know today, but I would say we are really thankful to this incredible device, which creation had to look impossible hundred years ago. Of course people needed some time till they believe in abilities of this strange flying object, but these days people have no doubt about it and airplanes are the most used way of transport around the world. I have been on the airplane only once and I have to admit I was really afraid that plane will fell down, but when I landed about one and half hour at the airport in London, I told to myself it was really quick and I would try it again if I could.Even though millions of passengers use traveling by air, U.S. airlines announced their services were using by fewer travelers than one year ago. While in November 2006 they carried 60.3 million passengers, in the same month of 2007 there were less than 60 million domestic and international passengers using services of American airlines. Domestic passengers still present the biggest number of passengers. Last year it was more than 706 million domestic clients and together with the international flights it made a record when flights were full on 80.3 percent in 2007. Among the most used airlines belongs Southwest Airlines Co. which use more than 8 million of domestic passengers; then it is AMR Corp.'s American Airlines with its 8 million passengers on both, domestic and international flights; Delta Air Lines Inc. with 5.7 million, UAL Corp.'s United Airlines with 5.3 million and US Airways Group Inc. with more 4.5 million passengers.
